5 Fears, 1 Dress • • 1. Figure hugging dresses. I thought that I couldn’t wear them because it would show all of my flaws. I would always have to wear something over it. I’d have to suck my tummy in until I felt completely uncomfortable and later give up and get changed.. • 2. My pale skin. I didn’t like wearing clothes that exposed too much of my skin, because almost everyone would comment on how pale I was. I’d then crack a joke or two and laugh about it. • 3. My arms and legs. I have always worn pants or had something covering my arms because I didn’t like the fact that when I walked they would jiggle. This has been my.whole.life. At one stage, a guy I knew said to me, “why don’t you wear dresses? We haven’t seen your legs.” • 4. Other people’s opinions on my body. I’m a big girl. I can’t wear a dress like this. I should wear an A frame dress as it will hide my hips. • 5. Colours other than black... People always say that big girls should wear black as it is slimming. Black has been my go to colour to wear because of that statement. When I was little I used to tell my mom that I was a colour fun girl and wear literally mix matched colours. Now that I’m grown up, I had become afraid to wear color as it will “highlight” The parts of me that bulged out. • The girl that believed these lies met Jesus. Since then, He has been speaking truth and identity over me. It has been quite a journey to get to this place and even today when I am not feeling great about myself, He reminds me of who I am. I am a daughter of The King. He calls me beautiful. I am enough. I am worthy. So are you. • P.S...
